On May 31st, we gathered in the company’s tea room to celebrate one of China’s most meaningful festivals—the Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Jie)—through a series of thoughtful activities for all employees. From sharing festive foods to making health-promoting herbal gifts, it was a moment of connection, reflection, and cultural appreciation.
The Story Behind the Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month to honor Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet and statesman remembered for his patriotism and unwavering loyalty. When his beloved homeland fell to enemy hands, Qu Yuan ended his life in the Miluo River. In response, villagers rowed out to find him, throwing zongzi (sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) into the water to protect his spirit.
This tale has been passed down for generations, symbolizing not only mourning but also devotion, integrity, and unity—values that continue to resonate in modern life and business.
Yujin’s Festival Celebration: Small Gestures, Deep Care
To commemorate the festival, we prepared hand-packed boxes of zongzi for each team member, symbolizing gratitude and celebration. Alongside this traditional gift, we hosted a DIY herbal mugwort hammer workshop. Each participant received a materials kit and tutorial video, learning how to craft an 艾草锤 (mugwort hammer)—a traditional wellness tool believed to promote relaxation, better sleep, and ward off summer illness.
This hands-on activity brought teammates together while reinforcing our belief that well-being begins with care and intention.
